Getting started (creators)
How long does it take to set up a Founder Pass?
About 5 minutes. You sign in with email or wallet, fill the deploy wizard (name, supply, price, royalty), and confirm one transaction. Total cost: ~€0.20 in gas.
What do I need to deploy a Founder Pass?
An email or a Web3 wallet, a credit card or ~€0.20 in ETH on Base for the deploy gas, and an idea of price (we recommend €100–€200) and supply cap (we recommend 500). Most fields except price and supply are editable post-deploy.
How many Drops can I ship per year?
Up to 6 per creator per 365 days. The contract enforces this so the "Founders get every Drop free" promise can't be devalued by spam Drops. Most creators ship 4 Drops per year (one per quarter), which leaves room for occasional bonus drops.
Will my YouTube Members migrate to Owny?
Probably not — and they don't need to. YT Members and Founder Pass serve different audience tiers. YT Members is for the casual €5/mo subscriber. Founder Pass is for the superfan willing to pay €150 once for tribe identity + Drops. Run both products in parallel; they don't compete.
Buying a pass (fans)
Do I need crypto?
No. Sign in with your email. Pay with a credit or debit card. Your pass arrives in a wallet we manage for you — you never see it, you never lose a seed phrase.
What if I lose interest?
Sell your pass to another fan on Owny's marketplace. Your money isn't locked in.
What if the creator stops making content?
Your pass is in your wallet, not on a platform. Past Discord history, past Drops, and your seat in the community don't disappear. If they ever come back, you're still in.
Why only 500 Founder Passes?
Because Founders are founders. After 500, the only way to get a permanent founding-fan number is to buy one on the marketplace from another holder. Want a cheaper entry? You can buy a seasonal Drop for ~€30 — same content access, but no founding-fan number.
Is this an NFT?
Technically, yes — your pass is recorded on Base, a fast blockchain. We don't make you think about that. To you, it's a membership pass you can resell. The "NFT" word is in our footer for honesty; it's not how you experience it.
Drops & ownership
What is a Drop?
A Drop is a quarterly, themed companion pass. Each Drop is its own pass contract, with its own art and supply (~1500 each). Founder Pass holders claim every Drop free, for life. Non-Founders can buy Drops as a cheaper entry tier (~€30 each) — they get that-season-only Discord access plus permanent ownership of the Drop NFT.
Do Founders really get every Drop free, forever?
Yes. The free claim is enforced on-chain via a direct ownership check: if you hold a Founder Pass tokenId, you can claim every future Drop with one signature, no payment required. Even if you bought your Founder Pass on the resale marketplace, you can still claim. The right to free Drops is bound to the Founder Pass NFT, not to any account.
Can I sell my Drop on the marketplace?
Yes. Every Drop is a transferable, ERC-721-standard NFT, listable on Owny's marketplace just like a Founder Pass. The 5% creator royalty applies on every resale.
What happens to my Drop after the season ends?
You keep the NFT forever. You keep your Discord role for that Drop's archive channel forever. What ends: live AMA participation and binding-vote weight, which are tied to whoever holds the current season's Drop or a Founder Pass. So your Drop becomes a permanent collectible + community-archive access pass.
Payments and fees
What does Owny take?
2.5% on primary mints (both Founder Pass and Drop), and 2.5% on resales. The rest goes to the creator (97.5% on primary; 92.5% to seller + 5% to creator royalty + 2.5% to Owny on resales). The 2.5% cap on protocol fees is enforced in the contract — we cannot raise it above 5%, ever.
When do creators get paid?
Immediately. Primary sales and resale royalties settle directly to the creator's wallet at the time of the sale. There's no 30-day payout delay, no payout minimum, no payment-processing markup.
Are there refunds?
Owny itself doesn't hold funds at any point — the protocol is non-custodial. So refund policy is set by the creator, not the platform. Most creators don't offer refunds since Founder Pass is a one-time purchase, but they can issue refunds via direct wallet transfer if they choose.
Technical / crypto
Where do my passes live?
On Base, a fast Layer 2 blockchain run by Coinbase. Your Founder Pass and any Drops are NFTs in your wallet. If we (Owny) disappear tomorrow, your passes still work — they're on-chain, not on our servers. The contract code is immutable post-deployment.
Can Owny seize my earnings?
No. Sales settle directly creator-to-fan via the contract. We never touch the funds. The protocol is non-custodial — Owny's wallet only receives the 2.5% protocol fee on each sale, atomically, in the same transaction.
What if Owny goes out of business?
Your contracts are deployed on Base and immutable. Founder Passes still work. Drops still work. The marketplace contract still works. The web app might disappear, but the smart contracts and your assets persist independently of Owny the company.
Legal / EU
Is Owny MiCA-compliant?
We've structured the protocol to avoid MiCA-CASP-licensable activity: no token issuance, no public offering, no custody, no investment framing, no yield. A Founder Pass is a digital access right (membership), not a financial instrument. Dutch legal review is pending before significant volume.
How do taxes work?
Disclosure: this is general info, not tax advice. Creators receive USDC directly to their wallet on each sale; this is reportable income in most jurisdictions. Resale royalties are also income. Fans buying a pass typically aren't realizing a taxable event until they resell at a different price than they bought. We recommend a local accountant familiar with crypto if your volume is meaningful.
